Mark Zuckerberg is on the spotlight these days wearing his typical hoodie. His company is going through a major corporate event in Wall Street: The Facebook IPO. For some, he looks more like an ill-mannered guest; the guy who showed up to prom in pajamas. For me, he is a live example of someone who sticks to goals and is extremely focused regardless of the circumstances surrounding him.
Unique Leadership Style
Recently some Wall Street investors started criticizing Zuckerberg’s distinctive style. His signature hoodie was taken as a sign of immaturity and lack of seriousness. He has been challenged about his ability to stay focused on his business and fulfill his obligations to investors.
Now, besides needing to deal with complex IPO issues, Zuckerberg also needs to manage a conflict between generations that takes place every time he steps into a room with traditional investors. It’s a curious situation, to say the least…
Zuckerberg Wears a Hoodie…
In reality, Zuckerberg knows what he wants. After the bell ring ending the big trading day and the champagne is popped, investors are going back to their desks to crunch numbers. Zuckerberg, instead, knows his major challenge is not to manage the expectations of his board of directors and new company investors. But, it is to keep his company ahead of the game.
He probably always wore a hoodie… since he first started his company. His incredible success is a direct result of his geniality. But, it is also result of sticking to his values and just being himself.
What I Most Admire
What I most admire about the Facebook IPO is Mark Zuckerberg’s ability to stay centered, balanced and to drive this strenuous process with his characteristic personality.
— Look through the world with your own eyes. Have your own perspective on things and take control over what you do. Create your own signature: be yourself and don’t be afraid of wearing your hoodie. This will make a considerable difference in your career as a strategist.
